Cheese and Chive Scones


I love scones but I don’t eat dried fruit so I decided to make some different ones, savoury and sweet, I need to work on the sweet ones more but here is the recipe for the the savoury


  • 225g/8oz self raising flour
  • pinch of salt
  • 55g/2oz butter
  • 75g/3oz 4 cheese mix (I had this in the fridge ready grated)
  • 25g/1oz mature cheddar cheese, grated
  • 150ml/5fl oz milk
  • Chopped chives fresh


  • Gas Mark 7
  • Lightly grease a tray
  • Mix Flour Salt and butter
  • Add cheese and chives
  • Slowly add milk and to form a dough
  • Allow to rest for 10 mins
  • place on a lightly floured surface and knead
  • pat down gently and using a cutter cut out the rounds you want
  • gently knead again to cut further
  • coat the top of the scones with milk/beaten egg
  • I placed a little more grated cheese and chive on the top also
  • cook for 12-15 mins until risen and golden

I used a little cornflour on the cutter to ensure the dough didn’t mix each time I cut.

Allow to cool on a wire rack, whilst warm slice and add some butter
